Major-General Frederick Hammersley, C.B.
He took part in the Sudan expedition of 1884-5, the Nile expedition of 1898 (where he fought at the Battle of Khartoum), the South African War (severely wounded at Talana Hill) and the Gallipoli campaign of 1915, where he commanded the 11th Division at the landing at Suvla Bay (Gallipoli campaign) on 6 August 1915.
