Harperley Park, Co. Durham in 1858. Seat of the Wilkinson family and now a training centre for the Police (The National Training Centre For Scientific Support To Crime Investigation, Harperley Hall, Fir Tree, Crook, Co. Durham DL15 8DS). The valley in the background is Weardale and the hill is, I would guess, either Fatherley Hill (1507 ft) or Collier Law (1694 ft) on Wolsingham Park Moor. The 'Weardale Way' passes close to the house. There was a Prisoner of War (POW) camp at Harperley during the war which is now a visitor attraction.
From 'The Old Inmates of Harperley Park' by George Hutton Wilkinson.
